Our specialty is CNC Swiss-type turning, from basic to multi-axis, with hydraulic or magazine-type bar feeds and related accessories. The History: Between 1980 and 1983, Steven Beck was a computer software specialist with Burroughs Corporation. Coming from the support and installation side of manufacturing software and a member of APICS (American Productions and Inventory Control Society), Beck was given a chance to move into sales in the second hand machine tools business. During the following 6 1/2 years, Steve was associated with a large used machinery dealership in California. As the economy emerged from recession, this association offered tremendous prospects. CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machinery was in its infancy. With Steve's background in the computer field, two opportunities were identified. The CNC turning machine was becoming both affordable and easily operated, and the production levels of cam operated screw machines were in growing demand. He concentrated on single and multiple spindle screw machines and the new field of CNC Swiss-type (sliding headstock) automatic lathes. The Team: In 1989, Steve Beck, President of Automatics & Machinery Co., Inc., established A&MCO setting out to conquer the used machinery business. Barbara Beck, Steve's wife and currently CFO, provided office and accounting support, allowing Steve to buy, sell, trade, liquidate & auction CNC machinery. Sales grew quickly, and timing and strategy proved accurate. A&MCO became recognized as an expert in the resale of CNC Swiss-type screw machines. In 1993, with a strong customer base and the need to be more centrally located, the company moved from the Los Angeles area to the Colorado Rockies. In 1996, James Owen came from Texas to join A&MCO, with a background in manufacturing. His talents in the mechanical/technical area led to his current position as VP/Senior Sales Manager in August 2002. James began with a technical focus on screw machines. Expanding his knowledge to encompass all CAM operated screw machines, CNC turning and CNC machining centers, James is a proven asset to the team. Sue Zeller came aboard to join our CNC-Swiss sales team. She has a vast background in manufacturing, marketing and technical sales. With these attributes, she is a welcome addition to our sales team. Tina Williams joined A&MCO as an administrative assistant. While it was apparent that her business background including secretarial, accounting & sales earned her the position of Sr. Sales Assistant, she has grown in our company with overseeing transportation, advertising and daily operational needs as well, and is now our Operations Manager. Bob Betzing has been in the machine tool business for a better part of 45 years. Starting out in an apprentice program, working with different areas of manufacturing, field service, sales engineering and sales, he quickly became sales manager of a major machine tool distributor. He became western regional sales manager for Marubeni Citizen-Cincom, and was promoted to senior VP before becoming semi-retired and joining A&M.
